The 'boy'.
   This is a story about a puppy that 'almost' didn't make it. Lucy had never whelped any puppies,since she was a 'career girl'. "Show Business" was her only interest. Ricky, however, had other ideas, and finally, in a moment of weakness (and a little help from her owners), she gave in . The pregnancy went ok, but when the -  x-ray time came, Lucy had only one puppy!  The time passed, and Lucy never went into any kind of labor. Her wonderful OB/vet, Dr. Becky Golatski, gave her a special blood test and found that Lucy and her baby were in trouble. An emergency run to Dr. Becky's office ensued. The c-section was done immediately, and Dr. Becky revived a beautiful, little boy puppy. It was scary at first,but she worked very hard on him, and he started breathing. As soon as he was rubbed very
hard with the towel he started screaming and was very noisy. He hasn't stopped since!!  But, we don't mind, because he could have just as easily never uttered a sound!  The puppy's problems did
not stop with the surgery , either. After Lucy woke up, she took one look at the wiggling creature and rolled her eyes! What was this thing, and NO, she didn't want anything to do with it! She would let him nurse, but no way, could he get near her for nurturing. She, didn't have much milk either. SO, another trip back to Dr Becky, where she tube fed him, and we started working with him at home. Finally, after four days, and at four in the morning (we were up every two hours), Lucy sniffed him while he was nursing,... We were frozen in place! She took one little lick on his head, and then another,,AND.. lo and behold she fell in love with him, just as we had!  She did her best from then on. We did have to supplement since she ran out of milk, but she was a good mom. Since mom and dad were named after our favorite TV couple, their son had to be named'Little Ricky' . Ron gave him the registered name of Laurelen Desi Arnaz Jr.  Little Rickyis very special to us, and no matter how he turns out, or what he does, we are so happy to have him here with us. He is growing up nicely, and we thank Lucy for all of her trouble.We would thank Ricky, too, but his part wasn't all that bad!!  We will post updated pictures of Little Ricky as he grows.   We have great plans for lots of fun with him no matter what venue we do!  Keep on the lookout for Little Ricky!

Little Ricky and his best handler, Lauren, made the cut in a quality packed class at the ASSA Nationals in St Louis. We are SO proud of both of them for being in the final eight!
